On this day in 2007 David McCuthcen completed Google Streetview
David McCutchen founded Immersive Media Company (IMC), a Calgary based operation, basing it upon work capturing wraparound images in the 1980s. He received a patent in 1991 and founded the organisation in 1994.
He went on to develop the Dodeca System in 2004. This was a digital camera that took a spherical photograph; to date the current offering is its fourth generation.
By 2006 VW Beetles equipped with these cameras were despatched in an exercise known as the Geoimmersive City Collect Project. It recorded major streets in cities across Canada and the USA, not only as stills but also as full-frame video.
IMC introduced the concept to Google and provided the images of the first thirty-five cities for Google Streetview in May 2007.
